Artist statement

I usually make my monotypes with an instinctive sense of freedom, creating an arrangement of lively, brightly coloured organic elements. As a child, I often moved from country to country, acquiring a palette of colours that are an integral part of the landscapes I travelled, and this palette is still with me today. These colours evoke my origins and all my memories; they help me to create abstract landscapes that immerse me in the aesthetic of childhood and plunge me into a fabulous universe.

Organic or geometric, open or closed: I like to vary the appearance of forms according to my frame of mind and the handling I seek. I always try to give the forms a character of their own. They are often stripped of details, making the image somewhat vague, while the distinct contours break away from the background to give the illusion of depth. The absence of colour in my prints is as important as the addition of colour. I often work by removing paint, which reveals the supporting paper and brings it to the foreground like an empty space. The partial loss of the image allows several readings of the work and viewers feel free to interpret this emptiness in their own way.

I am guided by my unconscious but inspired by absolutely everything around me. This automatic and spontaneous way of creating monotypes enables me to take advantage of unexpected effects and fortuitous events. The surprise that comes at the exquisite moment when the fresh print is separated from the plate is indescribable: it leads to new horizons that I would like to share with you.
